Qualifying Event

quality event

Coverage/dependents may be added or removed if a “Qualifying Event” happens outside the Open Enrollment window. A qualifying event may be marriage, divorce, birth, adoption, loss/gain of coverage or aging out of a parent's plan. There is a 31-day (90 days for the birth of a new baby) window to make changes as a result of a qualifying event.

Need to Make a Change?

Click here to login to the State Health Portal to make health insurance changes.

Make sure you have documentation to support your qualifying event, you will need to provide this to State Health. Changes will not be made until the supporting documentation is received. Documentation Examples: Birth Certificate and Social Security Card for birth or adoption, Marriage Certificate for marriage or a letter from a previous/current employer with effective coverage dates

If the 31-day (90 days for the birth of a new baby) window is missed, the individual must wait until Open Enrollment to make any changes.
